A sewing machine normally makes some noise, but if it suddenly becomes unusually loud, rattles, squeaks, knocks, or grinds, it's worth investigating.

Sometimes the cause may be simple, such as insufficient lubrication, loose screws, accumulated lint, or a worn part. But unusual noise can also indicate a more serious mechanical problem.

What kind of noise is your machine making?

A. Grinding?
B. Squeaking?
C. Knocking?
D. Rattling?
E. Clicking?

Tailors and technicians:

  1. What is the strangest sound your machine has made?
  2. What was causing it?
  3. Did lubrication solve the problem?
  4. When should you take a noisy machine to a technician?

Describe the sound and machine type below. Someone may know exactly what's wrong.
